From: "Paul Janzen" To: Boudewijn Waijers Sent: donderdag 20 april 2000 5:09 Subject: Old hack source A friend of mine pointed me at your nethack home page and suggested I mention that I have some "predecessor" source you don't seem to. At a moment of extreme idleness a year ago, I located and emailed Don Kneller, the author of most of the PC-HACK versions (1.0.3 to 3.6.0). My goal was to integrate his changes with the 1.0.3 BSD version of hack present in OpenBSD (nethack is clearly not appropriate due to its license). Anyhow, Don did have an old source version around, which he sent me. Unfortunately, it predates both 3.6.0 and 1.0.3G, the source for which appears lost. However, it includes quite a number of his fixes and changes, usually neatly inserted into #ifdefs, and the 3.6 changelog implies that only a couple more bugfixes not relevant to MS-DOS-specific code were implemented since this version. In Don's words, > Go ahead and put the source up on a site. The moment of extreme idleness passed, so I haven't committed his changes to the OpenBSD tree yet, but in any case, you might want to add the source to your predecessor list. The code is up at [censored - ALI] but I'd prefer you archive it yourself. Paul Janzen.
